Programs introduction:
Master's Program: Students are required to complete the curriculum between 2-3 years, fulfill the designated credits, complete the master's thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the Master's degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
Doctorate Program: Students are required to complete the curriculum between 4-6 years (in normal circumstances), fulfill the designated number of credits, conduct research, complete the doctoral thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Students with bachelor’s degree pursuing PhD degree in subjects of sciences or continuous program that involves postgraduate and doctoral studies, their study period at Peking University is normally 5 years. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate with the doctoral degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
Note that there are only full-time courses offered for international students currently.
Application prerequisites:
Master's program: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, have attained a bachelor's degree.
Doctorate program: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, have attained a master's degree. Students with bachelor’s degree could apply for PhD program in subjects of sciences or continuous program that involves postgraduate and doctoral studies.

Application materials:
1. Peking University Application Form for International
Students (Master and Ph.D. Programs) with a photograph fixed. Please visithttp://www.isd.pku.edu.cn/apply, or http://www.studyatpku.com, fill in the application form and submit, then print a hardcopy for reference.
2. Graduation certificate and degree diploma (Students expecting to graduate should provide an official letter stating expected graduation date), must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English.
3. Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to the present, including courses taken and standard achieved, must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English.
4. A personal statement (800 words for master program, 1500 words for doctorate program, must be in Chinese.) The format can be downloaded at http://www.isd.pku.edu.cn.
5. Two recommendation letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The format of the recommendation letter must be original documents either in Chinese or English. The format of the reference letters can be downloaded at http://www.isd.pku.edu.cn.
6. A copy of your HSK results:
Candidates for Subjects of Sciences: HSK level 6, 200 overall (min. 65 in writing) is required;
Candidates for Subjects of Humanities: HSK level 6, 210 overall (min. 65 in writing) is required;

7. One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary) .
8. Table of contents and abstracts of your academic publications and any other original achievement in your field.
9. Other materials required by the specific school or department you apply to.
Note: Two copies of all application materials are required, one original and one duplicate. Please hand in personally or sent them by post to International Students Division of Peking University (The envelope must be marked ‘Application for Graduate Admission’).
Application Fee: 800 RMB, paid in cash, by Yinlian bank card or through online payment. Any other currency or travel check would not be accepted.
Please note that incomplete application materials or application without application fee will not be processed. All the application materials would not be returned. The application fee is not refundable.
Application Period: From September 15, 2014 to November 27, 2014. Please make sure mailed materials arrive before deadline.

Medical insurance
All international students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students on the day of registration. Students who do not have valid medical insurance will not be allowed to register.
Accommodation information
There are different types of housing facilities for international students at PKU.

Self-funded Students are required to find their own living accommodation. Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station within 24 hours.
Visa information
Students admitted to PKU may apply for your visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country with your letter of admission and JW201/202 form. International students who will study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain ‘X’ Visa, which will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival in China. You must come to the International Students Division and apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China.
