The department of Aeronautics and Astronautics is established in 2010 to offer our Peking University students unique educational and career opportunities in aerospace, which is one of the most interesting and exciting disciplines in engineering and sciences. The main objective of the department is to prepare our students for tomorrow's success and leadership in aircraft and space vehicle design, implementation and operation. We hope to achieve the objective through our commitment to educational excellence and our achievements in research distinction.
For now the department mainly specializes in:
(1) Aircraft and space vehicle design;
(2) Flight control and information technology;
(3) Aircraft and space vehicle Material;
(4) Aircraft engine.
Before the founding of the department, various research groups at Peking University already have longstanding interests in aeronautics and astronautics, and have played a leading role particularly in fundamental and theoretical challenges that Chinese aerospace industry met in research and development. Since the establishment of the department, in addition to maintain our strengths and advantages in core disciplines, we are going to extend research themes and build up new engineering and research capabilities to address fast growing national and global needs, which include space robotics, environmentally sustainable aerospace design, space communication, pilot health and human factors etc. Our primary mission is to develop innovative engineering methods and to integrate new theoretical methods into aerospace systems, just as we have done in the past.
